The Ring (notes)

The film "The Ring" relies on atmosphere and story to deliver the jumps, not someone being cleaved in half like in "Scream"
The lightning in The Ring is all gloomy and this represents the sickness in society and whats bound to happen in the film, ie shock, horror and death.

The tree in The Ring is significant because it represents life and colour however the leaves are read and this suggests death and anger
